About me

I am Professor of Second Language Studies at the University of Iceland, Director of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages and the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures.

Board memberships includes the University of Iceland Governing Council, the University's IT Services, and the National and University Library of Iceland. I represent Iceland on UNESCO's Advisory Committee for the Decade of Indigenous Languages.

Current research interests include Multilingualism, Computer Assisted Language Learning, and Language Contact. I am the project director for Icelandic Online, a large LMOOC,  www.icelandiconline.com. The latest project is in collaboration with Auður Hauksdóttir, and funded by NordPlus.  The project examines the role of local languages in relation to Danish and English in Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
