Hólmfríður Garðarsdóttir earned her Doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. She has served as a Lecturer, Assistant, Associate and since 2010 a full Professor at the University of Iceland, School of Humanities, Faculty of Foreign Languages where she became Head of Faculty in 2012. Prof. Garðarsdóttir lectures on comparative literature; literary theory and history; Latin American literature and cinema and translation. Her main field of research is on contemporary Latin American literature, minorities and identity. Dr. Garðarsdóttir has published widely in English, Spanish and Icelandic and her most recent book-publications are: Yfir saltan mar, [Bilingual (Spanish / Icelandic) edition of Jorge Luis Borges poetry, with introducton] (Co-editor with Sigrún Á. Dr. Garðarsdóttir´s most recent book projects are: Social Identities: Minority Voices from the Caribbean Coasts of Central America -a critical examination of contemporary Central American literature focusing identity, ethnicity and gender (publication estimated for 2016) and two translation projects: Langt að komnar. Collection of short-stories by Central American women writers, University of Iceland Press, Reykjavík, estimated for 2016. Áhrifamáttur ljóða á umbrotaímum: Ljóðaþýðingar frá Rómönsku Ameríku (Bilingual publication of poetry translations from Latin America into Icelandic. Co-editor with Kristín I. Pálsdóttir). Publication estimated for 2018.
