In 2007 I started working as a part-time teacher in Tannsmi\u00f0ask\u00f3li \u00cdslands and later in the Dental technician programme at the University of Iceland. I have always had great ambitions on behalf of the dental technology professionals and have devoted most of my career to improving the quality of dental technician education in Iceland.<\/p>\n Dental technology has changed over time along with development in dental materials, technology, and computer sciences. The education of dental technician is constantly evolving. The curriculum for dental technician education in Iceland was changed in 2009, from a 4\u2013years of vocational education to a 3\u2013years first cycle program (180 ECTS) at university level. Students graduate from the Department of dental technology at the Faculty of Odontology with a BS degree in dental technology. Similar changes in the educational system for dental technicians can be seen in some Nordic countries and in Europe.<\/p>\n I and my former colleague Vigd\u00eds Valsd\u00f3ttir studied these changes in the curriculum and the wrote the thesis Dental technicians at the crossroads.
