A smooth whaleback newly appearing from the retreating glacier.\u00a0 Note the fracture on top of it and imagine how the distal part (distal from the glacier) of the whaleback will most likely be eroded away in the next adwance of the glacier or in the next glacial period. After that we will most likely have very steep lee side of the whaleback and that would be called roche moutonn\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>This development of a whaleback into a roche moutonn\u00e9e doesn't fit completely what has been written about the necessity of cavities and low pressure on the lee side of the bedrock. I can't see why the low pressure is needed to make the steep lee side end after the fracture has been made there.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"ERS_5544 by eir@si, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/eirasi\/5772984318\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 30px;margin-right: 30px\" title=\"Kirkjug\u00f3lf \u00e1 Kirkjub\u00e6jarklaustri\" alt=\"Kirkjug\u00f3lf \u00e1 Kirkjub\u00e6jarklaustri\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2327\/5772984318_2a87e8685f_m.jpg\" width=\"161\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>This whaleback is also remarkably similar to the famous Kirkjug\u00f3lf (church floor) in Kirkjub\u00e6jarklaustur in Sout-East Iceland, south of Vatnaj\u00f6kull glacier.
