{"id":4089,"date":"2023-12-05T10:33:22","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T10:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/?page_id=4089"},"modified":"2026-03-04T15:46:33","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T15:46:33","slug":"eyvor-ncc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/research\/eyvor-ncc\/","title":{"rendered":"Eyv\u00f6r \u2013  the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Iceland (NCC-IS) (10\/2023-9\/2025 and follow-up 10\/2025-9\/2027)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/files\/2023\/12\/NCC-IS.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"230\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/files\/2023\/12\/NCC-IS.png 230w, https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/files\/2023\/12\/NCC-IS-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ncc.is\/\">Eyv\u00f6r, the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Iceland (NCC-IS)<\/a>  is is a common platform for cooperation in cybersecurity issues, composed of the following public entities: the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Icelandic Centre for Research (Rannis), the Electronic Communications Office (ECOI\/Fjarskiptastofa), the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IS), the University of Iceland (UoI), Reykjav\u00edk University (RU), and the Technology Transfer Office (TTO\/Au\u00f0na t\u00e6knitorg) Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS operates in the context of <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32021R0887\">Regulation (EU) 2021\/887 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 2021<\/a> that establishes the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre (ECCC) and the Network of National Coordination Centres (NCCs).<\/p>\n<p>The core tasks of Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor and support actions: Monitoring and contributing to progress on national cybersecurity strategy activities regarding education, research, and development.<\/li>\n<li>Provide expertise and link to ECCC and NCC-Network: Ensuring contribution to and coordination with the ECCC and the Network of all European National Cybersecurity Coordination Centres and supporting their strategic tasks.<\/li>\n<li>Manage and coordinate funding: Managing and coordinating funding from the Digital Europe Programme and Horizon Europe for cybersecurity-related projects. Encouraging and assisting civil society, industry, SMEs, and academia in participating in cybersecurity actions (e.g., by Evy\u00f6r NCC-IS providing via Rann\u00eds <a href=\"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/2025\/01\/20\/2nd-funding-round-of-cybersecurity-grants-for-icelandic-sme-companies\/\">funding to Icelandic companies to improve their cybersecurity<\/a>, but also by informing on available EU funding related to cybersecurity).<\/li>\n<li>Raise awareness and build a cybersecurity Community: Acting as a central point for the national and European cybersecurity community, disseminating relevant outcomes of the work of the NCC-IS and NCC-Network, the Community, and the ECCC at the national level.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and disseminate educational programmes: Coordinating, implementing and sharing educational activities and fostering cybersecurity skill building and training (e.g. gap analysis, competence mapping).<\/li>\n<li>Support research and innovation: Identifying relevant research partners, promoting and strengthening dialogue in cybersecurity research and innovation fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To prevent any misunderstandings: Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS will not take over the job of <a href=\"https:\/\/cert.is\/\">CERT-IS<\/a> (or any other party) nor is Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS a Security Operation Center (SOC). Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS is rather an add-on to existing activities in order to raise awareness, co-ordinate actions, and improve education and research related to Cybersecurity on national and European level.<\/p>\n<p>University of Iceland is in charge of developing and disseminating educational programmes, i.e. coordinating, implementing and sharing educational activities and fostering cybersecurity skill building and training. In addition we did a survey on cybersecurity challenges and skills gaps in Icelandic companies and organisations. <\/p>\n<p>You are welcome to contact me if you are offering, e.g., training courses or are interesting in getting updates on available training.<\/p>\n<p>Cybersecurity is now more in the focus of politics and has now an own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjornarradid.is\/verkefni\/samgongur-og-fjarskipti\/netoryggi\/\">government web page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NCC-IS receives <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/how-to-participate\/org-details\/966834406\/project\/101127453\/program\/43152860\/details\">co-funding from the European Comission's Digital Europe Programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For events that might be related to Eyv\u00f6r NCC-IS, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/uni.hi.is\/helmut\/category\/cybersecurity\/\">cybersecurity blog posts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is now a follow-up project <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/opportunities\/projects-details\/43152860\/101226821\/DIGITAL\">funded by the EU\/ECCC<\/a> that runs from 10\/2025 to 9\/2027.
