Softw. Eng.<\/em> instead of <em>IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ISO_4\">ISO 4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/3569.html\">standard<\/a>: Words such as articles (<em>the<\/em>), conjunctions (<em>and<\/em>), and prepositions (<em>for<\/em>\/<em>of<\/em>\/<em>in<\/em>) are generally removed and a <em>List of Title Word Abbreviations<\/em> (LTWA) is used to abbreviate common title words.<\/p>\n<p>You can look up the words in the LTWA at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.issn.org\/services\/online-services\/access-to-the-ltwa\/\">https:\/\/www.issn.org\/services\/online-services\/access-to-the-ltwa\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, that list seems not be exhaustive: I have seen journals themselves using abbreviations not contained in the LTWA.<\/p>\n<p>It therefore helps to search also for the full name and add as search term <code class=\"\" data-line=\"\">iso 4<\/code> or to check whether there is a Wikipedia article that contains the ISO 4 abbreviation or to look up the journal at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resurchify.com\/impact\/details\/\">https:\/\/www.resurchify.com\/impact\/details\/<\/a> or at <a href=\"https:\/\/paperpile.com\/guides\/resources\/abbreviations\/\">https:\/\/paperpile.com\/guides\/resources\/abbreviations\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If page limit is an issue for you as an author of a scientific paper, then shortening references may be a way to squeeze out a few lines, e.g. using in the references section IEEE Trans.
