• Establishment and development of the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding which will operate within the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages at the University of Iceland, under the auspices of UNESCO.

• Research project: Á mótum danskrar og íslenskrar menningar. Danir á Íslandi 1900-1970 (The Meeting Point of Danish and Icelandic Culture. Danes in Iceland 1900-1979). In co-operation with Guðmundur Jónsson, professor of History at the University of Iceland, and Erik Skyum-Nielsen, Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen.

• Research on idioms and other phrases in Danish and Icelandic and the development of the online language tool www.frasar.net. In cooperation with Peter Juel Henrichsen, Assistant Professor at the Copenhagen Business School, Robert Östling, doctoral student at the University of Stockholm, Ola Knutsson, Assistant Professor at the University of Stockholm and Guðrún Haraldsdóttir, Research Assistant at the University of Iceland.

• Research on the Danish competence of Icelandic students in higher education in Denmark. Dansk som fremmedsprog i en akademisk kontekst. Om islændingenes behov for danskkundskaber under videreuddannelse i Danmark

International conferences and research networks

• Participation on numerous preparatory committees for international conferences.

• Directed the research network Lingua Nordica – Lingua Franca (2012-2013), which was financed by NOS-HS, in co-operation with Copenhagen Business School, the University of Gothenburg, the University of Uppsala, the University of Bergen and the University of Helsinki.

• Responsible for a research network on the usage of IT and Language Technology for Nordic language research, translation and instruction (2002-2004). The network was financed by NorFA, see thes publication CALL for the Nordic Languages.
