I began my academic career at the Iceland University of Education in 1987. Since the merger in 2008 of the Iceland University of Education and the University of Iceland, I work at the School of Education, University of Iceland.
I took on several administrative duties at Iceland University of Education. I was director of teaching affairs, director of the research institude, chair of the division for graduate studies, and coordinator of undergraduate and graduate programs. I was a member of the Iceland University of Education council, member of department councils, and academic evaluation committees. I was acting assistant rector for one year. I was a member of the Bologna committee of Iceland and a member of the work group that administered the amalgamation of the Iceland University of Education and the University of Iceland.
I served as chair of the department of educational administration and evaluation at the school of education. I have also chaired the committee of academic affairs of the university council.
I was a member of the quality committee for the university, and the committee celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the university.
I was elected for the University council during 2010-2012, re-elected for 2012-2014. I served as vice-chairman of the council during both these periods.
