About Atli
Professor Atli Vilhelm Harðarson completed an MA degree in philosophy from Brown University in the USA in 1984, and PhD in Education from the University of Iceland in 2013.
He was a teacher in a comprehensive secondary school in Iceland from 1986 till 2001 and, after that, first a vice-principal and then a principal of the same school.
He has been full time faculty member at the University of Iceland School of Education since 2014.
Publications in Icelandic include five books on philosophical topics, papers on philosophy, social issues, and literature as well as translations of poetry. Some recent works in English have been published in ATINER’s Anthologies of Philosophical Studies and in academic journals such as Journal of philosophy of education, Education and culture, Educational philosophy and theory, and Scandinavian journal of educational research.
Current research interests include curriculum theory, philosophy of education, ethics of teaching, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, the works of John Dewey, and cross-disciplinary studies of poetry and education.
