About
I am a Professor of Danish at the University of Iceland and the Director of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages.
After obtaining a B.A.-degree in Danish and Philosophy at the University of Iceland, I won a grant from the Danish authorities to pursue graduate studies in Danish. I obtained a master´s degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1987 and a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1998.
My works have mainly revolved around Danish language and culture. I have taught Danish on all educational levels, written educational material for secondary school, worked as a translator between Icelandic and Danish, and been a tourist guide in Iceland for Danish and other Nordic travellers.
My research domain is the Danish language, in particular Danish as a foreign language, comparative linguistics, and the history of Danish culture and language in Iceland.
