Í grein Sigríðar Sæunnar Sigurðardóttur í Íslensku máli 2020 nefnir hún að sér hafi verið „bent á að íslenska kveðjan Hafðu það gott […] hafi á árum áður verið talin dönsk kveðja“ en segist ekki hafa „fundið beinar heimildir um það“ þótt hún bendi á að hliðstæð sambönd séu til í nágrannamálum, svo sem Ha det godt í dönsku. Á tímarit.is eru nokkur gömul dæmi að amast sé við sambandinu hafðu það gott, og skyldri spurningu – hvernig hefurðu það?
Í Reykvíkingi 1928 skrifar „Stafkarl“ um samtal tveggja stúlkna sem hann varð áheyrsla og segir: „Heyrið þið stúlkur! Ég veit að það eru margir karlmenn sem tala vont mál, en þið eruð yfirleitt verri.“ Eitt af því sem hann nefnir því til sannindamerkis er að önnur stúlkan hafi sagt „Nei, hvernig hefurðu það?“ og bætir við: „Mig dauðlangaði til þess að spyrja hana að því, hvað þetta „það“ væri, en af því ég veit að ég er 40 árum of gamall til þess ungar stúlkur hafi gaman að tala við mig, þá hafði ég vit á að þegja.“ „Stafkarl“ er ekki einn um að velta þessu fyrir sér – í áðurnefndri grein Sigríðar Sæunnar í Íslensku máli segir: „Þrátt fyrir að óljóst sé til hvers það í dæmum sem þessum vísar má telja líklegt að upphaflega hafi það verið vísandi.“
Í grein í Fálkanum 1929 eru tínd til ýmis „mállýti“ og bent á hvernig þau „mætti ögn betur af munni mæla“. Í stað „Hafðu það gott“ er lagt til að sagt sé „Líði þjer vel, farnist þjer vel, vegni þjer vel“, og í stað „Hvernig hefurðu það?“ má hafa „Hvernig líður þjer? Hvernig vegnar þjer? Hversu líkar þjer nú?“ Í Vísi 1939 segir: „Ný orðskrípi, setningaglundroð og heilar setningar (t.d. „Hafðu það gott“) spilla máli voru miklu meira, en nafnorðin sum, sem lengi hafa verið notuð.“ Í Fálkanum 1942 segir: „Þú átt ekki að ávarpa kunningja þinn með þessum orðum: Hvernig hefurðu það? […] Hafðu það gott. Vertu ekki að apa þetta eftir Dönum. Talaðu hreina íslensku, og mæltu heldur við kunningjann: Hvernig líður þjer? […] Líði þjer vel.“
Síðastnefnda dæmið er úr grein sem heitir „Verndun móðurmálsins“ og er eftir Vigfús Guðmundsson. Hinum dæmunum fylgir ekki höfundarnafn heldur aðeins upphafsstafirnir V.G. og má telja næsta víst að um sama höfund sé þar að ræða, sem og á lesendabréfi með sömu upphafsstöfum í Morgunblaðinu 1951 þar sem segir: „Í stað […] gamallra og góðra siða og einfaldrar íslensku er nú farið að særa íslenskt eyra og spilla tungu vorri með margs konar aurslettum útlendum. Til dæmis tek jeg hjer einungis ávörpin dönsku: „Hvernig hefurðu það?“ og „hafðu það gott“, í staðinn fyrir „hvernig líður þjer?“ og „líði þjer vel“.“ En Vigfús var vissulega ekki einn um að amast við hafðu það gott og hvernig hefurðu það?
Í Hlín 1954 skrifar „íslenskumaður“: „„Hafðu það gott“ – Það er nú orðin algeng kveðja á Íslandi. – Þetta er svo sem ekkert ljótt. – En hvaðan úr fj., liggur mjer við að segja, er þetta orðskrípi komið inn í daglegt mál? – Ekki er hægt að kenna Ameríku um það. – Nei, það er bara þýðing á norskri eða danskri kveðju. – Er þetta nokkuð þægilegra en að segja: „Líði þjer vel.“ – Látum oss leggja niður þennan leiðinlega sið. – Skólarnir þurfa að taka sig til og herja á þetta orðskrípi, áður en það verður landlægt.“ Sjálfsagt má finna fleiri gömul dæmi um að amast hafi verið við þessum samböndum þótt ég hafi ekki rekist á þau í fljótu bragði, en ég kannast ekki við að gerðar hafi verið athugasemdir við þau á síðustu áratugum.
Bæði samböndin virðast koma inn í málið í byrjun tuttugustu aldar. Elsta dæmi sem ég finn um hvernig hefurðu það? er í Þjóðhvelli 1909: „Hvernig hefurðu það, Imba mín; þú ert vel frísk?“ Elsta dæmi um hafðu það gott er í Dropum 1929: „Vertu nú blessuð og sæl, Stína mín, og hafðu það gott.“ Hvorugt sambandið verður þó sérlega algengt fyrr en á þessari öld og þá er farið að nota þau sem staðgengil fyrir það sem þykir enskulegt orðalag, eins og sjá má í grein í DV árið 2000: „Menn segja ekki: – Hafðu góða ferð. Menn segja: – Hafðu það gott.“ Þetta er gott dæmi um það hvernig málfar sem (sumum) þótti áður forkastanlegt er tekið í sátt og verður gott og gilt þegar við eignumst nýjan óvin. Svo skal böl bæta að bíða annað meira.
